Fiddler Crabs Home

Smith, S.I. (1870) Notes on American Crustacea. No. 1. Ocypodoidea. Transactions of the Connecticut Academy of Arts and Science 2:113–176.

Smith may be the first author to formally discuss splitting fiddler crabs into broad- and narrow-front groups, although he does not name them (different names are not applied to these groups until Bott 1954). He also recognizes complete distinctness between the American Atlantic and Pacific species.
