Kirk (1880) described a new species of fiddler crab from Wellington, New Zeland, but there is no subsequent evidence of fiddler crabs there. More than likely, this specimens (which has been subsequently lost) was collected elsewhere or were stray individuals that washed up on New Zeland during storms without representing an established population.
