citation: Say (1817-1818)Ocypode pugilator Uca vocans Computed in part; Reference to Ocypode citharoedicus. This is an erroneous interpretaion of Say, on two counts. First, the species Sy refers to is clearly meant to be the American species Uca pugilator and not Uca vocans. Second, he never actually proposes the name Ocypode citharoedicus. He mentions that he had planned on using that name until he realized the species had already been described.
